Roof Leaking in North Richland Hills, TX
Challenge
We had a customer recently call about numerous leaks on her roof. This was an existing customer that we had replaced the roof 6 years ago for and was having many issues. Customer was complaining there were many different leaks in the house.
Solution
After spending quite some time on the roof and inside the house chasing leaks, we found one main cause creating these leaks, and it had nothing to do with our roof.
With gutters, it is extremely important that homeowners can keep them maintained and clear of debris. This can be a monthly issue if the gutters are beneath trees that are losing leaves and branches rapidly. What we determined was happening here, was this gutter system was so incredibly backed up with debris, that it was no longer able to drain and thus in a downpour, the water was backing up and able to get under the shingles. Shingles are not made to be water tight against back pressure, so drainage is an incredibly important vaiable in keeping the inside of your home dry. The water was running under the shingles and running down the rafters to multple locations.
We cleaned out the gutters and also created a larger emergency drain port on the gutter system, but if the gutters are not kept clear of tree deposits and debris, it is likely that the same issue will occur.
So, if you have gutters and live with trees on the property, please make certain to do monthly checks of your drainage system!!
